Types of interior doors and where each one belongs

Most residential projects use four or five door styles across the whole building. Choosing them early keeps the order simple and the look consistent. Below are the interior door types we manufacture, all solid core and factory primed.

Flush doors

A flat, smooth slab with no panels. The flush solid core door is the most economical option and the easiest to paint; it suits modern minimalist interiors, rental units and commercial spaces. The flush lines door adds four horizontal grooves for a contemporary look without the cost of a panel door.

Shaker panel doors

Shaker style means flat recessed panels framed by square-edged stiles and rails — no ornate moulding. It works equally well in farmhouse, transitional and modern schemes, which is why it dominates new construction today. We make it in four layouts:

• One panel Shaker door — the cleanest version, one tall panel.
• Two panel Shaker door — the classic bedroom door with a horizontal rail at lock height.
• Three panel Shaker door — three equal panels, a popular choice for hallways.
• Five panel Shaker door — five horizontal panels, the most architectural option.

Glass doors

Where you want daylight to pass but not the view, use tempered frosted glass. The one panel glass door has a single full-height lite and is ideal for home offices and pantries; the five panel glass door keeps the Shaker rhythm with five frosted lites. Both use solid core stiles and rails, so they close with the same weight and sound rating as a panel door.

Louver doors

Louvers let air circulate while hiding what is behind the door. The two panel louver door is the standard choice for HVAC closets, laundry rooms and walk-in closets where ventilation is required by code or by common sense.

Bi-fold doors

Bi-folds fold in half and slide on a top track, so they need no swing clearance. They are the default for reach-in closets and pantries. Every hinged style above has a bi-fold twin: flush bi-fold, two panel bi-fold, 1-lite glass bi-fold, louver bi-fold and more. See the bi-fold sizing guide for opening widths.

Solid core or hollow core?

All the doors above are built on a hybrid solid core: solid pine stiles and rails with high-density MDF faces. That gives sound reduction, a substantial feel and a surface that takes paint perfectly. The trade-offs are explained in solid core vs hollow core doors.
